Best linkbuilding methods? [June 2014]

I used to have success with hidden links and 301 redirects, but it looks like the recent google update is very effective against these and they are not working anymore (at least not as effective). I can't get any new sites ranked again. I am currently looking into guest posts.

I am wondering what is working for you guys?
Blog networks? Seo tools (xrumer, GSA, Senuke), buying links? Anything else?

According to Google recent updates, blog networks and guest posts are still working good to rank a websites with short interval whereas SEO tools are still fine to diversify your link building campaign. To me, SEnuke is much better than all SEO link building tools because of his awesome performance and its also used for Youtube videos without any risk. If you have low budget then go with GSA.

It's probably nothing to do with your methods and more to do with Google just not letting any new sites rank at all. Go look at any niche and there isn;t a single new site ranking that doesn't have an aged 301 with aged links pointing to it. You used to be able to blast new sites to the top from scratch, but not anymore.
 
Working for me is strategy, first analyze your competition then start working on it.

Analyze what your competitors has done to rank their sites via spying on their backlink profile. Then start your work to strengthen your website backlink profile to beat them.
 
Yay you are right. From what I have noticed you need authority injection in order to rank new sites. Either it has to be 301 from an aged domain, tons of sape or more better: grab an old domain and make it your MS.

I used to rank new sites in matter of few days but now it is not working that good.
 
Aged domains are definitely key to rank today. Once you have an aged domain, you can use many different methods. As for link building, I would decide first if you have a long term strategy or churn burn. That will dictate the type of links you want to build and the velocity you need to build them at.

Many things work still -

Aged domains with a high quality profile still work, you just need the right authority domain and the correct configuration set up wise. Many people do stupid things like link everything on one server, show WHO is data and use GWT and then they come crying that Google wiped them out lol.

Broken link building using API based on expired domain list also works very well on scale, if you know how to set it up.

As said above competitive research is one of the oldest tricks in the book and it still works, just use a girls name for out reach and hit all target sites and act nice, most webmasters are guys so they love to get an email from a girl, have tested it on scale 1000s of times

I was looking for an aswer like this. Thanks. Do you rank in competitive niches using this strategy? I'm in one of the top3 most competitive niches and I always try to rank for the toughest keywords.
 
I do it this way.
First as mentiond before, I check the competion how often the KW is looked for, what is the suggested bid from google. if it fitz my requirements I give it a go.
Then I have to decide on my blog/side, is it going to be a .org or .com
Buy a "good" aged domain as the money site, with some edu and gov backlinks. than 2-3 "Medium" good aged domans forlink building. it is a big plus when the previous use of the site is similiar to what you are doing now!
Then I do all the necessary seo stuff for a site that you can do! I guess no need for explanation here.

Thanks for the answear, I am at the beginning of my Seo career, and I have a question: Where is the difference between a post on a private Network and a other guest post? Is it just because you are having a private network and so it's cheaper or is it because your private network is better structured and hasn't got so many articles with outgoing backlinks?

My backlink "strategy" for a website with nearly no competitors and a emd is: 2-3 Social Bookmarks + 1 web catalog link + 4-5 related comments and then waiting.
 
Even aged domains are not ranking as fast as they used to (with new content that is). It's 50/50. The Google Sandbox is real these days. Honestly b/w all the penalties and how long it takes to rank a site, going the legit way (one legit money site with legit content) and using high quality links is not a bad strategy. Overnight rankings are a thing of the past.
 
Any contextual links works but you need to build pyramid out of them to see better result and they take time.
Guest blogging is great.
Commenting on moderated blog is marvelous especially when the page has PR.
Setting up a blog network that isn't abusive work like charm.

As others mentioned, Guest blogging is really good option for your site, make sure you get the links on real & niche related blogs. Also You need to build only high quality links to your money site and never use SEO tools for this purpose.

Contents matters the most for any type of links, use 100% original content (Avoid Spun).

You can use GSA & other tools as a Tier-3 link building technique.
