I am going to be buying a new laptop, and would love to have opinions of what some of you thought would be a good option for IM?

I don't know about most of you, but I like to have a lot of tabs open when I am working. With that in mind, I am leaning heavily towards purchasing the ASUS ROG G751JT-CH71 17-Inch Gaming Laptop, and then I plan on updating it with SSD, and possibly even 16 more gb of ram.

This laptop is i7, quad core, and already has 16 gb of ram. I am not a huge tech guy, so I am excited to see what some of you think about this. Thanks!

If you use it mostly for IM then a 300-400$ laptop should be more than sufficient.

And spend the rest of 1k into a VPS, with 1k USD, you can have quite a decent VPS for 2+ years.

Just my 2 cent though, if i were you, i would have gone this route.

What part of Internet marketing will you be working in?

    • SEO?
    • PPC?
    • Content marketing?
    • Affiliate marketing?
    • Email marketing
    • Etcetera?
For most parts of Internet marketing, a $1,500 laptop with those specifications is overkill. While I normally use my primary computer (8GB RAM, x4 2.6Ghz processor, GTX 560, SSD) for my web maintenance, local SEO, and Photoshop services; I have been able to complete my work, albeit a bit slower, using my outdated laptop that only has 3GB of ram, a really bad video card, and a regular old HDD with about 300GB of storage. There are other members who manage to work with computers that are even worse than my laptop.

I mean, if you're going to use the laptop for games, extensive editing, graphic creation, or just to have it, then by all means go for it. At least you would be able to go much longer before you needed to upgrade it.

The laptop you mention sounds good - personally I would always buy the most powerful laptop I can afford AND an SSD regardless of what it's being used for because it will be faster and more future proof.

For IM specifically you might want a big screen laptop or even an external screen so you can have lots of stuff open.

Lastly don't be under the illusion that your laptop can replace your need for a VPS and reserve some of your money for that purpose because a VPS is invaluable for running your tools.

Believe me or not, I don't buy any laptop with 1500$ or something that amount of money. I try to get a simple laptop with just net connection. And I always buy laptop with 250-400$ . So, do the same and invest the rest of money on your projects man ...

Never too long in one place.
A gaming laptop is for gaming, and an ASUS is a mall-top.

Why don't you tell us what you want to do instead?

You want to carry your stuff around? You want virtualization? You want something sturdy that just lasts and lasts?

It really depends what you are planning to do. Are you going to run bots and software for SEO or other tasks on it or are you only browsing the web and going to use MS office products. I am using Lenovo laptops for the past 6 years and are 100% happy with them.

Personally I would go with Macbook Pro, and run Windows with VirtualBox if necessary for any software. But do the main part in Mac of course. When I was using a new windows laptop and saw how my partner was working with data files much faster on a Mac, i made the switch. and how it keeps its value in aftermarket is not comparable to any windows device.

If IM is the sole purpose of the Laptop!
you can get very good laptops within 600$ !
spend the rest of the money to make some $$

I cannot think of any reason you would need a laptop with a GPU for IM. Care to tell us more about your requirements? However, typically any laptop would suffice for this kind of work. Just stick an SSD in it and you won't even notice the difference between a 1500$ laptop and a 300$ laptop if all you do is IM.

I have a dual core 4gig ram PC for IM what I found next to the rubbish bin on the street. I put an SSD drive into it and upgraded it with an extra video card to allow me connecting 2 screens to it. It does every job I throw at it.

I guess a modern low end laptop could could do the same.

But hey, I am not the kind of guy who despises people driving Ferraris in the traffic jam.
If you have a fancy to have a nice laptop don't hold it back!
It's a cool laptop. Go for it!

My thought exactly, when it comes to my computer, I want the best even if it's over kill but I use my computers for both my IM work and gaming. I'm running 980ti's right now in SLI and it's unbelievable, especially if you're playing games likes Crysis 3 on a 40" 4K monitor.

I would just get an average laptop, with an intel cpu, 4-8 gb RAM and upgrade it with an ssd. The ssd will make all the difference in terms of speed.

Why $1500 Laptop for doing IM?
IM is not about playing PS3.

$300-$400 is only good if you can find a nice refurbished one for that price. Your not going to be able to get a 1920x1080p for that price for a new laptop. 1920x1080p is so much easier to do IM on than a 1600x900 or the still standard 1366x768.

What kind of harddrive was you using in the windows? Most windows laptops unless they are in the higher end come with just a 5200 rpm HDD whereas the Macbook Pro comes with an ssd, but you can switch out the 5200 rpm HDD and put an SSD in the windows.

You could get a sick desktop for that. Any reason for a laptop?
