ubersuggest.com works for me, i used it in conjunction with writerzen, which is very good for seo writing

You can use Google Keywords Planner, for some basic options it's good, also you have an extension called Keywords Everywhere that will show you some important info about keywords every time that you make some search query. If you need to do some quick research you can also take 7 days free trial on some tools and do the job.
 
Ubersuggest provides a wealth of information with its free version. When you enter a search term, it displays the search volume, SEO difficulty, paid difficulty. The free version limits your use to a single website and 3 keyword searches per day.
 
Google keyword planner is a free tool, which is one of the best tools for me.
