You can get cracked versions from any video editor from kind of thrusty websites, but still, free programs with the option of no geting malware when you install them sounds really good to me.

"LightWorks" is the best for sure!
It's been on the market for over 30 years
I highly recommend this software

Filmora by Wondershare is quite good. Has a free and paid versions. It's full-featured editing tools and in-built effects and templates in Filmora are totally free to use, but there will be a watermark in the exported video. And, there are many softwares (such as Apowersoft) to remove Filmora watermark for free.

Use filmora. Its lightweight and friendly UI. Also they give lots of effects and transitions for free with the software.

The definition of "free" is, sometimes open to interpretation, but the term "free software" is well-defined

Openshot is by far the best choice out of all these. It is an open source and forever free. So easy it it that it is even included in 6th grade school syllabus of children. Give it a try.
