it's a cool trick but many sites also show "No data available for XXXXX"

its bit hard now-a-days.
I've blocked ahrefs, semrush, bingbot at cloudflare firewall level and not on robots.txt level for my PBNs. so they go untraced. Anybody adding my money site in bing webmaster tool to find backlinks will not find pbn linking to my moneysite.

why block bingbot though? bing/yahoo/duck give about 5%+ market share of search.

bing can rank my moneysite naturally without much pbn backlinks.
so why let bingbot crawl or even index my pbn sites? there's no need.

i see, that makes sense.
but google can rank naturally too with age usually 6 - 12 months.
i see many sites ranking with a handful of links in top of page 1 once they reach about a year old.
either they are all hiding pbn links or truly not having much.

have you had much success blocking semrush? i have read form folks who have tried semrush bot that it ignores whatever shit you put in robots.txt file.

I would start searching for other people's PBNs with Bing webmaster tools. Then I would look for the same IP, or the same hosting provider. It often happens that PBNs are linked to each other.
And I would look for competitor backlinks with less popular tools, definitely wouldn't use ahrefs or semrash.

I don't know any free one, but there are paid ones. For non-hidden PBNs, you can use a regular backlink checker like Ahrefs.

Free tools can't even show proper not-hidden backlinks for free (and if they do they show a very small part, as it's mainly for make you try their feature and then buy the actual product), let alone showing hidden and more complicated to discover backlinks.
