Best Free FTP Software?

Well I've had good luck with Core ftp so far but after reading this thread I may be switching to FileZilla :p

Ran into the same problem you did and switched over to filezilla. Gonna wait for the new version of smartt ftp to be cracked and will problably go back to it for a little while.

flash fxp is the best by far

I 2nd this notion for FlashFXP . Its amazing, easy interface and faster than any other FTP i've used in the past.

Only drawback is that FlashFXP isn't free. But a I used a cracked version I got off thepiratebay for the past 2 years and just love it. I reinstalled my OS in the spring and had to re-download FlashFXP again. All the cracked versions I could download didn't work and expired after 30 days. I also ran into several copies being filled with PPI crap :eyebrows: which were of no use because of that.

So I decided to try the every so popular freeware filezilla as I knew it wouldn't be stuffed with 100's of exe's. I like it for the most part, mainly cause its free, however one thing I don't like is the interface layout(GUI). FileZilla has 2 extra windows for "your files directory tree" and "server files directory tree" which sits above the 2 main file directories. It makes it confusing and isn't really needed as you can handle and control all the same tasks from the 2 main file directories(your files & server files). All other FTP's don't have this extra feature, at least not from what I've experienced. I know I can probably remove the directory tree some how in options but there should only be 1 directory for your files and 1 for your server files to begin with to make it simple with as little clutter on the interface display of the FTP program. What I do is move the "BAR" down to cover up the directory trees so I have more viewable room for the 2 main directories. Other than that its a really good FTP.

1) FLASHFXP (Fast as shit too)
2) FileZilla

the best and most secure by far for windows is winscp. learn it. love it.

+1 for WinSCP.
Synchronized browsing and automated Putty login are my favorite features.

I would have to add another vote for flashfxp. I personally find it to be the most useful, but it's obviously not free.

While you may be able to find a cracked version, I ultimately decided this software was certainly worth purchasing several years ago, and never regretted it. They do offer free trials like most others as well.

I am gonna have to go with a bit torrented copy of the latest CUTE FTP. Been using it for yrs.. gonna keep using it.

filezilla + putty + firefox = portable webauthoring.

They block almost everything at my office, so I use putty to ssh to a shell account on port 443, use that as a socks proxy with firefox(portable) and do any ftp work I need with filezilla(portable) and I don't need no stinkin admin rights to do it!

Cuteftp is number one imo, followed by smartftp and filezilla. Filefilla is annoying cause it doesn't store my log in details.

i use core ftp lite and have no hassles at all - very easy to use IMO

The best free FTP software is FileZilla. Just my opinion.

filezilla for sure...not that i have used anything other than fz...but its gotten the job done for me everytime...
