Hey,
Last year my client had a massive negative SEO attack done to him. Within one month over 300,000 backlinks were created to the site.
Some of the main tactics used were:
Copying his homepage content on multiple crap sites
Porn website links
Porn Anchor
Anchor Text spam
General garbage links.
We had so many links to go through, it was insane but we finally did it, waited 2 months as some links will naturally get deleted which technically shows you are deleting links in google eyes. We then went ahead and disavowed nearly his whole link profile.
We finally got this message 1 month after the reconsideration request:
One of the biggest things I found was making sure every toxic link was deleted. If you have spammed the living shit out of your site then just start over. Google rejected my request 3 times before I realized, well shit I am going to have to just go for it and disavow every link I find through webmaster, ahrefs and majesticseo.
Although, if you are a local Business and you have been spammed then think of your main clients that may have linked out and then just do a check for all the local listings you have before disavowing. Once you have removed them, then just disavow everything. Only do this if you have a silly amount of links pointing to your site. If it's a small link profile then it's easy to go through the links yourself and fix it.
The site that had negative SEO done is sitting back at number one for a keyword that gets 250,000 searches a month btw.
