If it's just some simple cut and merge, I use FFMEG. If it needs some basic quick animation or transition, I use Sony Vegas. If I need more complex editing, I use Premiere Pro + AE.
If you have money, invest on PC for Premiere Pro + AE. Even Sony Vegas is "primitive" compare to the Adobe softs. But don't waste time on other "simple instant" soft, better to use Sony Vegas. So it is FFMPEG or Sony Vegas or Premiere Pro + AE
