My buddy is asking me to help him to set up an online shop. I know there are lots of available options out there, which one is the best?
    osCommerce?
    ZenCart?
    CRELoaded?
    Magento?

    He has 3 major criteria:
    1) different clients will buy at a different price (in other words, the discount rate is different among customers)
    2) his products is highly customizable (color, size, etc), so there must be some customizable options associated with each product
    3) multi currency

This is changing. Trust me: Magento will win the opensource e-commerce war, hands down.

I'd advise you to try magento and pay real attention to prestashop as it is already optimized for SEO ;)

I'm not a big fan of joomla or joomla addons - it messes my SEO! ;]
Just testing Prestashop on 2 different projects:
One quite simple, without changing the design (so far it's been pain in the ass to get decent free themes)
and the other completely stripped down with custom graphics, blog, forum... actually, prestashop there is just a part of a bigger site. So far no problems with it, will post back soon when I have more to say.
So far quite a few people (especially my developers) told me not to use magento, cause it's not really custimizable and causes problems down the track if you want to tweak it. Presta seems to be more clean coded. The seo feature is good, but from my point of view still very basic, though it's not a problem cause I do my own proper seo anyways.
