Best CMS for School Website?

I want to create a website for a secondary school as a parting gift, so I want it to be as great as possible. The only problem here is that I'm not a professional website designer. I am currently having difficulty deciding which CMS would make my work easier and with the best results

I'd welcome any reasonable suggestions. Thanks

Could you describe the requirements in more detail? What are the features that you
want to do? If it's not something too complex, you could look at Joomla. If it is, then
take a look at Drupal.

Actually, you know what, I was thinking about doing a freebie and offering
our members some of my web development expertise. If you need someone

If you aren't planning on doing anything crazy, Wordpress should work for you. It is much easier to use than other CMS's (for novices) and there is no shortage of documentation and tutorials on the web for using it. That being said, tiyowan raises a good point. The specific requirements for what the site will do may steer you in a different direction.

Thanks tiyowan & Thecontentauthority. Among other educational features like access to maps, charts, diagrams etc, I want a site that supports checking results and submitting assignments online..hope that's not crazy..lol
 
I would also suggest you Wordpress if you are new to the industry and would just like to set up something quick and easy and yet attractive. If you are looking for something more basic, you could either try Wordpress.com or Blogger.
 
+1 for Wordpress
the best cms if you are novice, Wordpress has a very active community and you'll find all plugins and designs that you need :)
 
I'm using Wordpress with the LearnDash plugin for one client. Works great and they have regular updates. You do have to pay for the plugin though.
 
Easy solution just go for Wordpress. If you prefer advance integration and more complex, then drupal. A lot of education websites in my country based on drupal.
 
Thanks all for your suggestions. Not that I'm a total noob. I have some knowledge of website management. I just haven't had to build a site from scratch before. I'm really tempted to us Drupal because I like complex things. I want the site on completion to have a woah! factor...What do you think pals?
 
Drupal has some great learning modules, I run an online school on Drupal. Otherwise as suggested look at Moodle -- its really a sweet deal!

Most Schools, Colleges and even some universities uses Moodle:

Also, some universities use Blackboard as a way for lecturers to share notes, book titles, timetables and other stuff:

Learndash is the bomb!!! I'm attracted to this wonderful module, plus it's on Wordpress. The only problem is that it's commercial, and I don't use Paypal:(
