Cloudflare. You just have to install the Origin cert and it's free and recognized by browsers because it's issued by Comodo.

https is overrated. No ranking boost whatsoever, everyone who says there's a "subtle" boost is probably mistaking normal positive fluctuation with it. It does fuck all tbh... also, letsencrypt is bound to get a ton of spammers thanks to it being free and not having to jack shit to get an SSL. It won't be long until these are completely worthless. The green lock is nice, but its a nice to have... not necessary.

Google should just stick to what they do best and focus on ranking good websites instead of everyone's security. Like some mentioned, probably something to do with large advertisers not being able to serve over encrypted pages.

Free certs were available long before letsencrypt, for example from startssl. dv certs were always easy to optain, you never had to put any effort in it other than money.
and couple of bugs has never stopped someone who already invested time and money in tools to do shady things.

Maybe https is worth nothing for simple blogs, but with Google, Mozilla and so on pushing https forward the awareness for such things reaches more and more the avarage joe.
Avarage Joe doesn't understand the details, but what sticks with him is that pages without the green lock are bad.
Even if they aren't, avarage joe doesn't care. It was covered in the computer magazin aunt Debie was reading, so it has to be true.
