SEMrush and Ahrefs are great but expensive. Some cheaper/free SEO tools I use:
1. Google Search Console (free must-have)
2. Google Analytics (Free traffic insights)
3. Screaming Frog (Free version)
Not as powerful as SEMrush, but good enough for daily SEO work.

For budget friendly options, I'd recommend:
- Google Search Console (free),
- Ubersuggest for keyword research (affordable),
- Screaming Frog (free up to 500 URLs).
For backlink analysis, Ahrefs Webmaster Tools offers a decent free tier.
These can cover most basic SEO needs without breaking the bank.

If you’re looking for cheaper tools, I’ve built something called TopicalHQ (you can Google it — I can’t post links here). The idea is that you can earn free credits by participating in the forum, posting, contributing, etc., and then use those credits to access the tools. It’s a bit gamified. Feel free to check it out if that sounds useful.

Yeah you’re right that Semrush and Ahrefs are awesome, but the cost can totally kill a small-site / freelancer / startup budget . Luckily there are plenty of cheaper tools (and even free ones) that can help with keyword research, audits, rank tracking, competitor insights, and backlinks without the huge price tag.
