Best Car Under 16K?

Do you like the Chevy Impala? You can pick up a nice one for less then what you are looking to spend. Here is one i found for cheap.

I drive a chevy cobalt, they fall in that price range.

Edit: Got mine on '08 didn't know they were discontinued.

They are not bad cars.. but I think camry/accord look better and are in the same price range.

I looked into Scion TC, what do you guys think of this car?

If you were in Aus I would recommend one of these. They don't sell them over in the US but they're great looking cars. The one in the photo is a Turbo, but the N/A looks identical and still goes well. 6SP Auto works very well. Am going to be getting one of these shortly.

LOVE the car, I'm really happy with it!
GREAT gas mileage & it's turbo'd so it can get up and go

I paid 18,500 with all the options and after tax (it's a LT, not LTZ model)

Have you ever thought about getting a Dodge Charger? You might be able to pick up an SRT for that price

I have one, I took a picture just for you. Here it is in my driveway:

no offense to american made vehicles, but for a newer vehicle i would definitely recommend an import. i personally love nissan lines (datsun/nissan/infiniti). but there are plenty of other ones too. just do some research.

from what ive heard, kia has really cheap vehicles right now if you get a base model. one of my friends had a kia suv, and that thing was a blast to drive. a guy i used to work with has a newer kia rio, and it gets 38mpg. from what i was told, kia buys their engines from mazda i think (dont quote me on that lol). their website says the 2011 rio starts at 13k. it kinda resembles a sentra even lol

on a side note, if you're interested in older vehicles, the nissan KA24DE and the VG30E engines are AMAZING. and they last forever. Ive had 3 VGs, which is the v6 motor. 230k on one, all original, 1987 300ZX. the last 100k miles were HARD HARD miles cause i drove the piss outta that car. I parked the car cause of computer problems. engine is still good. I have an 84 300ZX Turbo with 170k, again all original. a good tune up, replace the timing belt and water pump, and im gonna turn up the boost from 6psi to 10psi. again, gonna run the piss outta the car. third VG was in a minivan. (im 21 also, there's no shame in a minivan lol). 270k on it. engine was PERFECT. but we parked it cause after 5 years we still didnt have title. (oh, and i raced my 300zx with the minivan....from 10-75mph. that minivan can MOVE lol)

Nissan used the KA and VG motors forever. they used them in everything. cars, sports cars, trucks, and vans. and there's a reason. they last and are tough. ive seen both motors go over 300k and some up to 500k without doing anything but basic maintenance. i side with nissan, but there are plenty of good choices. an early 2000s taurus does pretty well i think. ive drove two myself. hondas get good gas mileage. one word of advice, it will REALLY help you out if you learn how to work on cars. just the basic stuff like changing oil, air filter, and maybe brakes. it will save you alot of money in the long run. tools aint that expensive. look at a pawn shop for used ones, or ebay. craigslist even. no need for name brand if you dont do it on a daily baisis. google is good to learn. oh, and on a side not, kia still has a 10 year/100k warranty. and warranty is something else to consider when buying new.

for more options, mitsubishi lancer is a nice car. the new models look like the evo, which is by far sexy. i saw the infiniti G35 mentioned a few times. by far a very sexy car too. the scion tc aint a bad car. i prefer having a real clutch, so its not for me. but for someone who wants sporty but dont wanna learn how to drive a manual, the slap shift option works great. i do like the toyota celica. trying to get my fiancee to get one right now actually lol. the hyundai tiburon is another option. kinda falls in the same category as the tc.

another thing to think about is how long you're gonna have this car, and the weather. do you want front wheel drive or rear wheel driver? your profile says chitown, so snow is something to think about. although with the winter last season, even a truck wouldnt go far after a snowfall lol. if you aint experienced in driving in the rain (believe it or not, some ppl aint) and the snow, then you'll want front wheel drive. or all wheel drive, like a subaru, evo, or a 4x4 truck. i have a friend that picked up an evo 8 for 14k. so if you keep your eyes open with the small dealerships, you may find a steal somewhere. just please stay away from the cliche and dont get a 90s or 2000s model mustang lol.

If you want to get a new car, I'd go with the new focus. I've had one for over 5 years and have never had a single major repair. Spent less than $600 on repairs in over 5 years!

why cars are so cheap there? at my place, it's really hard to get cars under 30k, even used. lol

I just bought a Volkswagen GTI for 13.000? which is $18k USD, so a little over your budget, but im sure you can find a cheaper one.

edit- my current daily driver is a 1988 buick electra park avenue with a LN3 pre series 1 3800 engine. bought it with 100k now it has 115k miles nothing wrong with it except need a $100 computer that i replaced the month i bought it, besides that no issues, zero break downs .
