Best Band in the World

the-beatles.jpg

So many great bands but some are just exceptional

I go with The Beatles ? just been watching some of the back catalogue amazing and how they get my vote with Paul McCartney in the band, I will never know!

But they were and are a one off!

My favorite band is The Rolling Stones but the songs that were penned by The Beatles are simply unique and unchallenged in respect to sales and popularity?

Which is your favorite all time band?

i have many favs but the best imo is the grateful dead. saw them live so many times in the 80's and early 90's

I also really like the allman brothers band, neil young and crazy horse, pink floyd, CCR and phish

Given a choice, I'd keep on listening to "Imagine" and "Hey Jude" all my life. "Imagine" is undoubtedly the best song I have ever heard in my life. Nothing can beat Beatles. Legendary guys.

"Imagine"

My favorite song ever I was in a Manchester Airport hotel on December 9, 1980 at 7-30am when news broke on his assassination quite frankly a day that changed the world for ever. The day that killings moved from politicians into mainstream and now we have Newtown et al His killing was a game changer from which the world has yet to recover!

I was 7 years old when the Beatles hit America. They changed everything. Even though I don't listen to them as much as I used to, I have to give them my vote.
Amazing the changes from that pic from their first (American) album to this one probably 6 years later

Im a big fan of Blink 182 :D Guess what generation I am from ;)

I don't like The Beatles and 90 stuff, I love modern Metal like Breaking Benjamin, Love 'em!

I still remember when the news of his assassination was aired on radio, I couldn't believe it. The guy who assassinated Lennon had no particular reason for it. Lennon was at his peak and he didn't deserve to die. :( .. Man, this made me emotional. I still hear Imagine every once in a while and would keep on hearing till I die because I know that this world won't ever see another Lennon.

I lived in NYC a couple of years ago and went one day walked down to the Dakota and stood across the street from the guard house and gate. It looks exactly like you see in all of those pictures the ones that are usually black and white. And man let me tell you....it was emotional and surreal. I was raised on the Beatles from my parents so it was a big deal.

I didn't want to look like I was there for that reason. But how the hell can you not? There is really no other reason to stand next to a tree staring at a gate across the street. But really when I was there and I stayed for a bit..it's unreal how something that you've seen and affected you can be so real and tangible. Like stepping thru a wormhole or something.

Very very powerful stuff.

I think Bright Eyes (Conor Oberst, Mike Mogis and the ever changing rest of the band) is quickly becoming one of the greatest bands ever if not THE best. I'm not sure who is the top right now but The Beatles seem to be the most popular.

I came to this thread to say The Beatles! Whether you like them or not you have to respect the talent they had. 3 song writers, 3 could sing, three could play guitars, Lennon the piano too. And of course there was Ringo, the luckiest man ever to live. I put them and Elvis at the top. Never will we see the likes of them again and I feel lucky to have lived during their time.

For me the last great band was Oasis. It seems to be a downward spiral since the end of the 90's. Now we have bands like One Direction, JLS, Beiber selling songs by the bucket load and you have to wonder how we got to the position of having talentless nerks making millions. Gotta blame Simon Cowell for the shite music the world is producing at the moment.

Hard to argue with the classics: The Beatles, The Stones, Pink Floyd all superb

Heres a few others to throw into the Mix

The Pixies
The Fall
The Kinks
REM(went shite at the end but until Bill Berry left the band they were world class)
Public Enemy. I dont remember a tune at the time that didnt sample PE and they were a seriously influential(and Inspirational) band
Talk Talk
Beastie Boys
Big Black
Slint

And somehow I missed The Jam. !

@duffers5000. I love the pixies. saw them in chicago once. definitely a great band. Also, I love Modest Mouse. There isn't one song that they've made that I don't like.
