What is the best backlinks research program or service? I dont really care if its a tool or a service like majestic seo. I just care about how thorough it is and whether it can research other things like the anchor text, PR of the linking page etc.

I'm not sure I follow you, you want a software that analyzes the incoming backlinks that a specific page has?

Market samurai or Traffic travis can do that :D

My favorite tool for SEO research is Scrapebox.

It offers the best way to do research in bulk. Most tools limit the type of research you can do or the extensiveness of the research abilty. Scrapebox on the other hand lets you do build research on everything from PR, anchor text, etc.

I hear that Ontolo is a great tool for powerful backlink research, but I haven't tried it yet.

I use SEO powersuite's SpyGlass, it's pretty cool, and very thorough.

Yeah, thats right, MS uses majestic and/or yahoo site explorer.
What about the tool seomoz has? Its still a subscription based user pays option but that have a ton more other ranking factors displayed.
