In the past I have always used Google Analytics. But, I am curious if there are any other recommendations?

Try Heap, Clicky, Foxmetrics, PiwikPro, etc.

Monsterinsights is the number #1 alternative to Google Analytics.
For some reasons, I prefer not to use GA on some of my websites specially the automation sites.
And MI has been good to me

I've heared some great recommendations for Yandex Metrica, you might want to look into it, too. Never tried it myself though.

but my opinion is Google Analytics and semrush are good.

All the analysis tools mentioned above (Google Analytics, Yandex metrica, Matomo...etc) are really great but considerably slow down the speed of the pages of your sites. Recently I tested plausible.io whose js size is less than 1Kb and the speed of my pages has not dropped for a millisecond. I am rather very satisfied with it but the only down side is that you have to pay a monthly subscription. However, you can test it for free for a month.

I still use Google Analytics for all the websites I do SEO on. I have worked a few times with some alternatives, such as Adobe Analytics (considered quite comprehensive), but none of them have worked as well for me.
