If you're doing this for experience, then why not try out Amazon Affiliate? The commission percentage is abysmal, but you've got Amazon's reputation to ride on.

Some affiliate platforms excel in digital products; others, like ebay excel in physical products, it just depends on what you intend to sell.
Given that you have tried registering at clickbank, I am going to go ahead and assume that you intend to sell digital products. You should try jvzoo. They are the next best network for digital products.

Otherwise, team up with someone if you're a newbie, be a slave for a year and soak up everything from someone who is willing to teach you a trade. That's why most reputable companies offer apprenticeships. The idea of you stumbling around forever until something works sounds ok, but why not JV with someone and make some $$$$, learn the artistry etc.
Just my rambling thoughts...

Since when is JV some kind of apprenticeship?
JV stands for Joint Venture
JV usually consists of two guys splitting tasks and sharing the profits. One guy supplies the platform and the other guy generates the traffic; that kind of stuff. Sometimes JV partners are of equal weight. Sometimes, they are not. Regardless of being equal or unequal partners, JV relationships are never about master and apprentice.
