Yes, since the cost of regging the other tld's is pretty low, I'll often grab alot of them if I like a name. net org info for sure, sometimes a cctld if something is fairly geo-targetted.
Another reason I do that sometimes is if a .com name kinda takes off, then I look at building out an authority site or a trusted site of some sort on the net or the org. For example, if I had a site promoting a product (let's say blackhatthongs.com) and it got at all popular, then I would keep the .com as a promotional site and build out blackhatthongs.net as an "independent" review/forum/authority site.
