Benefits to having .com/org/net pointing to same site?

Hey guys just a quick question say I was making a site on skydiving, is there any seo benefit or any benefit at all to having skydiving.com skydiving.net and skydiving.org???

Only benefit I can think of is that it will stop someone else from buying the .net and .org to SEO a separate site as well.

.com is more powerful in terms of SEO, .net and .org do ok as well however.

so you recommend only regging the one then?

For a microniche or autoblog, where I don't really care about SEO, and it's just one site in a few hundred, yes I would recommend just the .com.

For a larger site, that you're going to invest time and energy into and be your primary focus, I would register all 3 and .info just to keep the competition away - $20-30 / year is peanuts compared to having a decently SEO'd competitor trying to rank on the SERPS and possibly leach a portion of your traffic.

Keep in mind that SEO isn't always "just about you" - limiting a competitor's ability to SEO (or copying parts of a competitor's SEO setup) can be a powerful strategy.

Yes, since the cost of regging the other tld's is pretty low, I'll often grab alot of them if I like a name. net org info for sure, sometimes a cctld if something is fairly geo-targetted.

Another reason I do that sometimes is if a .com name kinda takes off, then I look at building out an authority site or a trusted site of some sort on the net or the org. For example, if I had a site promoting a product (let's say blackhatthongs.com) and it got at all popular, then I would keep the .com as a promotional site and build out blackhatthongs.net as an "independent" review/forum/authority site.
