Being an unemployed Programmer.

Loved the advice of BassTrackerBoats. Consider thinking out of the box, and do not wait to get a job. By reading threads on BHW, you can even come up with several fantastic product ideas that I know for sure people will go crazy about.

i have a friend in cologne and things look good there (he is portuguese) he is not a developer but seems to be a city with a lot of startups

I live in Berlin Germany and studied Computer Science. When I started my studies in 2012, everbody was telling me, that I can get a Job everwhere, because Coders are needed all over the world, and the demand is way higher than the number CS Students.

I mean, my gawd. If you studied anything to do with computers, u can automatically become a freelancer. That's the beauty of that field, unlike other courses in uni.

I saw an article about lots of "hackers" making 6-figs at HackerOne.com. If you're a good coder, I guess you'd also be a good hacker? Maybe try there.
 
Is this serious? I'm in Belgium, I'm still studying IT and my programming teacher (he has a huge software company) told me there will be literally IT companies waiting for us to finish with our studies so they can hire us.
 
If a programmer have real skills, he will not scare of any unemployment, just search the market, build the product, beat them all.
 
In reality, like many other fields, programmers will be going the way of the dinosaur. It will be known as the Programus Rex. Many aspects of programming are already automated - things like fault testing and bug finding. We are very close to having applications that you speak to and tell what you want done and the machine writes the code. Just at the moment, the auto coders are only capable of about five lines, but they will progress at a faster and faster rate. (Fx/Fy)

The other problem with programming is that much of it is outsourced to countries that have less expensive work forces.
 
It has never been easier for programmers to get experience. Just build a website, an app, a game-server, contribute to one of millions of open source projects. Then tell them what challenges you had to overcome, what tools you used, and so on.
 
Maybe your bar too high and you want a big salary right away, you'll first have to gain experience (sorry, but its a fact of life). Try freelancing and you do not have to be tied only to Germany. Good luck

You are right don't listen to other people.
First as you know Berlin is in north eastern region of germany which is economicly way worse than south germany.Also it has no future and is flooded with unemployed people.I know what i'm talking about.
The rest of germany has also a pool of programers they can choose from thanks to CDU/SPD who claimed each job position which gets under 100 cv's is called understaffed which is total bullshit.Its a way to force domestic people to accept lower wages and nothing more to get more competiv companies against asia.
