Hi Friends,

I googled carpet cleaners in my local area and i see this area on the left that lists companies and their locations.

They are at the TOP OF THE LIST.

Is this section called
-Google Maps
-Google Plus
-another name?

thanks for your input!

That is Google places, you sign up and and add your company information, then as you gain authority through citations and a few other metrics you increase your placement. Search around for more information, pretty much a must have for local businesses.

No problem, good luck with the research! Can definitely be a great way to attract new local business.

The listing is free on google places, but you have to add some reviews to your listing and you have to add some citations to get the first place on the search results.

Not hard to do. You can get citations yourself, or pay $5 for someone to do 15-20 for you on the main regional citation sites like Yelp, Yellow Pages and what not to save you a hour of work. It's best to get your business verified in Google Places first though, they'll need the physical address to send a post card to, which will have a pin for you to confirm.
