[Beginner questions] Writing guest posts and contextual link anchors

I don't like asking stupid questions like this, I apologize and will be very thankful for time anyone spends on this post!

1) I want to help my website to rank higher, I've decided to do some guest posts. My confusion starts with what content to put in, all posts I've seen seem to have much easier content to promote and nice logical articles with somewhat interest raising titles. The products my website is offering is items from a virtual game, how do you go about promoting this kind of website? What kind of article structure would you suggest?
So far I did structure - about the game, normal process of obtaining these items, avoid the struggle and buy. Seems more like a blog post than guest post so I posted it in blog.
I could write a whole article about each of the item but that seems a silly guest post - hey look at this item from a random game.
How does one write guest posts for websites like this? Any free article generators you can suggest to use (obviously for inspiration)? Any examples of similar site guest posts?

2) What kind of anchors should I use in these and generally using contextual links? I have only 3 main keywords I need to rank, SemRush seems to mark that using these keywords extensively is not a good practice. What are the anchors that are good for linking the money site?

Writing guest posts should be no different from writing articles for your website.

To get some quick ideas, just look at your competitors' Backlinks. You can rewrite and better optimize their guest posts, so you can even try to steal those Backlinks afterwards.

Don't look too closely at your micro niche for keywords, and if you're just starting it's better to use branded anchors or generic ones ( click here, read this, etc. ). But make sure that the paragraph where you add the anchor is optimized and gives Google a clear signal of what your linked page is about.

To make it short, if you still have to learn SEO (TBH, we all do in some way), starting doing linkbuilding as SEO didn't exist.

I don't have articles for my website as there are already super detailed wikis for the game which have super high authority and show up 1st in all search results if any item name is placed in search terms and then there are game review/tutorial websites with less detailed information and high authority after that. I put short-ish descriptions with main features for all items in their product pages, the couple that have been lucky to be indexed are around 40-60th position. My guess would be that blogs would perform the same and the time and effort put into those simply wouldn't bring enough if any benefits.

My competitors.. The main one I'm trying to beat has some windows/adobe crack profiles trying to bring their authority up - they have profiles in websites that allow profiles where they post their crack download link and linking 5 profiles from other websites, in which they do the same. And for some reason it actually works and their authority is raising.

The other one seems to have bought 300 backlinks for 5$ deals, having over 7k backlinks with bad quality and 22% spam score (they show up right below me in serp).
Then there are well established eBay-like sites like g2g that are just giants.
Looking at the direct competitors (not the giants) I'm the only one putting in legit seo efforts in.

I am ranking in 5-8th position for the main keywords but the search volume is generally low so I need to rank higher to get decent traffic. Everyone is suggesting to do guest posts in relevant websites but I'm struggling thinking of what to write. If I did articles for my website, it would be about item use ("why having XXX in X Game is important") but is that really something for guest post?

google doesn't like thin content sites anymore. I had a similar site (I mean, a site with only few pages... 8 in my case) that I hoped for 1.5 years that it would rank on its own because the content had been 100% unique and high quality. Didn't matter shit to google until 2 years have passed, and only until I started building links to it. I sold it shortly after because I didn't want to bother with it anymore...

I mean, I guess you could theoretically rank a 3-page site, but you'll probably need lots of backlinks. I don't know how competitive the "video game currencies" niche is, but by the sound of it it's not very competitive (because your main competitor is not even relevant to this particular niche, and this tells me that there's no traffic in this niche, therefore there's no competition, therefore with a bunch of links... say 10-20 quality ones, you'll probably win a few spots in the SERPs. But what's the point of gaining those spots if there's no traffic?)

If I were you I would choose a different niche... IF you want to make money that is. If your goal is to brag about being able to rank in google then go ahead and build 50-60 links (I can share a list of free backlinking opportunities if you want) and see what happens! But to make money you need to choose niches in which people spend money, and in which there's at least some search volume, so you can have topics to write on...

It's a 250+ product website with 18 main pages indexed. It's not very competitive but it does have competition, the 10-20 other sites are ranking lower. There's not thousands upon thousands $ to make, if I managed to rank it properly, 1-4k a month could be possible, me and other people on this site are game enthusiasts, we won't provide services of other game just because it's more profitable, we're experts in this particular one. The main competitor has 4,5 years old website with established traffic which majorly plays in their favor.
I'd be happy for more quality link opportunities.

Yes, I'm one of those guys that run top picks, reviews, tutorials, comparisons sites in Tech niche.

Here's my 2 cents.

Your end goal is making money.

Whatever game you are targeting, start writing blogs around it on your own site. Target long arse keyword and do strong interlinking.

"How to quickly level up in XXX"
"How to earn more XXX in ABC"
"Best Skins to buy"
"Best maps to play"

Blaa blaa,,

It could literally be anything connected to the game. Interlink them with your money pages. Ranking such pages will be easier for you with cheap links.

Instead of running ads from any ad network on your site, design your own gif banner ads and promote the stuff you sell.

Guest Posts can be expensive, you need to take care of your ROI brotha..
