Been stuck at $50 as current balance on adsense for months now - Please read!

I am looking for ways to make money with my google adsense account, I have made a site on blogger.com with ads on it but all I need is clicks and I am struggling with that part of the deal.
Should I join adwords? I have always been hesitant in joining adwords. Anyone have any suggestions? I tried making blogs of what is trending but I still do not get any clicks.
