Been out for a while, does seo and web 2.0 still work?

Trying to get my feet wet again, I been out of IM for about a good 2 years now since my last method went to sh*t.

So what is the best way to rank and get good placement in g00gle nowadays? I use to build about 10-15 web 2.0 pages usually promoting a product on different platforms, would link em up with bookmarks and profile pages, get a few of them on page one of g00gle and start ranking in the dough (yes it was that easy), those pages are now long gone as the top 10 results are just gobbled up by authority sites now.

Like I said I haven't messed with IM for a long time now so I'm way behind and seo and web 2.0 was my thing before I left.

What's working now in 2013 for seo? Not asking for niches or secrets, but just more a general idea of whats working now I can build off of. Is white hat the only way to go for seo now?

SEO still works - it changes now often, just like it always has, but the basics still work

web 2.0 is still part of a good link profile

SEO still works, web 2.0 also helps. I dont think web 2.0 is as powerful as it can be or will be, but its still a good thing to have.

In case you haven't heard, SAPE is dominating the search engine now.

Quality content is the only thing that ranks now, since I believe Google is taking into account the behaviour of visitors on your site, bounce rate etc

I also agree with you. Regardin web 2.0 properties using aged niche and indexed web 2.0 properties are really helpful.
