Not sure what's changed. Been getting my clients all the citations available perfect NAP, photos etc. Additional links such as from other clients resources pages, press releases, occasional web 2.0 guest blog posts, onsite optimized. Yet some clients are dropping off and getting out ranked by sites with 0 links, 0 optimization and virtually nothing going on for them. Anyone else experiencing this or give me some feedback? This is all local seo, like city plumber etc.

Could you give a little bit more detail about what SEO you have done? Will help us help you.

I hear you man. Local SEO has been a fucking nightmare recently.

I cleared well over 6 figures this year with my local sites but over the last couple months my earnings have gone to shit. I get paid for performance (leads / commissions) so this has put me under immense pressure.

I have noticed the same thing.... especially with G local. Many of my clients sites dropped down or completely out of the 7 box, and the sites that are left do not even have the main keywords in their title!

I have more reviews, more citations, better on page.... yet G local is showing websites with none of this shit, and on top of that the "A" listings its showing are like an hour away from my location.

I also lost rank on a lot of my sites as well. But the good news is I made a brand new site right after hummingbird, used a private network of relevant / high pr links (just a few) and was able to rank #1 for 6 high profit keywords. So the same SEO method seems to be working. The bad part is this is a seasonal niche (waterproofing) and right not its not in season so I won't make much money off that site.

And like I said, tactics that use to work for G local.... do NOT seem to be working anymore.

SEO seems the same. The only thing that seems different is how you do your onpage. And that would take too long to get into.

So my short term solution is to basically stop doing G local, and target only local commercial keywords that don't have a local box. But that isn't going to work long term and will not get my earnings back to what they were before.

I had 4 sites, each site with 10+ competitive local keywords in the top 3 of G local, and lost about 70% of those keywords. Keep in mind these keywords were not dancing, and were fairly consistent for the last 6-12 months.

I'm also seeing an outcry by local marketers on nearly every forum I go to.

And lots of people are putting together bullshit solutions / speculation but I have come across a few PDFs that
have peaked my interest... like this one:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/1a3kyvfla9bg18g/Commercial%20Intent%20Anchor%20Text%20And%20Schema.pdf

With that said, this is a time for advanced local marketers to COME TOGETHER and start sharing ideas.

I'm getting sick of waiting around for solutions and I see A LOT of people experiencing the same problems.
I've also spoke to a few local marketers who said they've gotten most their traffic back. But we need
to organize a skype group of fulltime local marketers who can brainstorm ideas, test new strategies,
and share their results.

Thats why I'm reaching out to as many people as I can. And in a couple days I'll be posting on all marketing
forums to get peoples skype addresses.

Feel free to send me your skype if you want to get involved.

Here's some tips:

Do the regular local SEO stuff like citations, google places optimization, yelp/bing/yahoo, KML/KMZ, etc.

That should be the first month's work. After that don't spend any more time on it. Except for getting reviews, those are always good.

Next comes regular organic SEO work. Get some high quality links with your anchors (not a lot) just some good high quality links. Build some other links like web 2.0s and social links.

Next start building tier 2 and 3 links to those using generic keywords like "citation source", "XXX experts say", "according to XXX industry experts", etc. Use the quotes too if you want.

Take a look at my journey: http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackh...ting-local-lead-gen-pay-per-call-network.html

I'm out ranking local sites using videos. In that thread I only talk about 1 video but I have other videos and local affiliate sites out ranking real sites. My affiliate sites don't even have google places pages anymore since google stopped allowing UPS boxes.

Local SEO + Organic + Reviews = Domination

But you can do it with just organic if you really want too. Just don't go the cheap route with crappy links if you want it to last. I can tell you from experience I've burned a lot of sites with crappy links.

Ill dig through this more incase im missing details but I ahve been doing most of that. I am going to start buying small packs of private network links for my clients I am thinking.

Same issue here, tons of reviews, tons of citations, still get outranked by absolute garbage. Remember several other people besides SpiderBlast saying High Pr Links is what helped them to rank in 7 pack lately.
Time to do some shopping around.

Could the competitor be offering more relevant content and better articles? Also make sure for best results you are using
the closest hosting company for that area to host.

How are you doing your anchors? Could you have been hit because of over-optmization?

I tend to think that when someone states that a domain with a new site and 0 links is out ranking them, that means you've probably done something wrong. Think about it. A new site hits the SERPs with a neutral, untrusted baseline. Then this site is going to outrank yours without much of a try? This means you're site is getting negatively impacted probably by something you have done.
