I will use this as a journal to keep track on my progress and on my business’s progress.

After deep thought and evaluation, I realized my problems:

  1. I’m not committing to a business after launch.
  2. I’m comparing my progress to other people’s progress.

After deeper research, I found out it is called Shiny Objects Syndrome, effectively jumping from one project to the other without completing any.

I can spend a year preparing and launching a business, but then my intrest diminishes after not seeing unicorn results. This will be tackled by setting realistic goals, something I’ve never done before believe it or not.

1.I’m usually high(metaphorically speaking) and infatuated while working on a project, and as soon as I launch and things go sideways, I quit and on to the next shiny idea I go.

I’ve been doing this self vicious cycle for 4 years now. It’s time I stop.

I’ve been working on a project for almost two years carefully planning everything and the minute it went live and I only had two sales, I lost my commitment because I was expecting Amazon’s revenues in my first day.

Expectations can kill dreams.

I am making an active decision, that I will completely commit to improving my business and sales, or at least keep at it for the rest of the year.

Even If things don’t go my way and I have to go back to my old job, I will continue to keep my commitment to improve it.

  1. Like a lot of people, I’m being sold everyday on Instagram pictures of fake lifestyles and I’m comparing myself to the well crafted “lifestyles” of others. I cannot delete it as I will use it for my business. However, I will be mostly focusing on my business and trying to ignore the rest. I also compare other businesses in the same category with mine. Even though I understand they’re already established and have been around a while, I aspire my business to be like theirs some day but I keep comparing my day 1 with their day 1000. This must also stop.

If I can keep the commitment, by the end of the year I should have:

  • a viable business that keeps growing.
  • a better understanding of committing to a project therefore improving S.o.S
  • £10k revenue/ month

If I cannot keep myself committed to seeing this through, then I deserve a dead end job which, ironically, I’d have to commit the rest of my life to.

I’m launching my business on 2.04. I’ve already generated 5k emails of potential buyers. Assuming the worst, even if I have 0 sales, I will stay commited to making it work.

(To be honest 0 sales would be a product problem which I don’t believe it is since it’s already on the market one way or another) -> before I’m hit in the head with a stone, let me say that I’m differentiating by offering better pricing, longer warranties and better customer service. I won’t be doing any other projects for the rest of my “challenge”

With that being said, Let the commitment games begin.

Quick update:

everything is up and running, however i’ve had to switch my fb ads account and now I have a daily cap of £36o_O still converting and gathering data.

leveraged etsy as well
- google ads up and running but only breaking even here.

12 Days since Launch Update.
Revenue - £560.

-Got lots of content.
-Optimised website.
-Testing fb ads continuously, can’t really do much bc of the limit.
Got about half of the month left to hit the £1K goal.
can’t scale much further from here until fb decides to increase my limit.

what do you mean by fb limit? Doesn't it keep rolling as long you have your billing details in place?

LET"S DO THIS OP! I also have that shiny object syndrome.

This is a brand new ads acc so they limit it to prevent fraud. They’ll increase it in time

Sales slowly coming in.
Shiny objects syndrome slowly creeping in.
I’ve designed 9 more products for the brand.
I won’t manufacture all at once, I’ve learnt my lessons.
I won’t manufacture anything out of pocket anymore. If I sell what I have, I’ve got money for better products, if not, I have to wait until the sales come in.
As I’m writing this I realize that me designing 9 more products is still shiny objects syndrome. Still running after something else, thinking other products will sell better because they’re more unique.( aren’t they all, haha).

I realize this is a bad spot to be in mentally. I honestly didn’t see it this way until I put it down here. I see the pattern, this is where I stop.

I need to improve the conversion rate. No more spending money on other products until I sell what I have. Others are selling about the same thing for more and are killing it.

Boys and girls, the shiny objects syndrome is real and most of the times you’re not even aware.

I’m considering scrapping email marketing altogether. I’ve tried everything, I’ve warmed them up, tested different flows, different offers to the point where I’ve offered buy one get one free to the hottest audience, and they still won’t convert.

is there anyone here willing to give some tips?

this is my main frustration at the moment, and that facebook didn’t up my daily spend yet.

I know I need email marketing, abandoned checkouts flows, browsing flows, but I’m saying I don’t see the results, nor do I know how to improve it.

Email marketing works. Take a look at @GringoMonkey 's journey thread. It's just a matter of a/b testing everything haha. Welcome to marketing and by no means am I an email marketing expert. I just know of plenty examples of successful email marketing.

I’m aware it works ! I was just emphasising at the moment it doesn’t work for me when everything else converts

Thanks for the reply!

1 MONTH REVIEW

I Hit the £1k/month goal
  • Improve packaging- this can wait, at the moment the packaging is what you’d call ‘standard’. I want to create a better unboxing experience. Eventually I will do this as I have the suppliers ready to make them.
  • tested paid vs free shipping, figured out what works.
  • Conversion rate needs improving but it was expected since I tested a lot of traffic sources.
  • Designed 10 pieces, will produce only 2 extra at the moment.
  • The influencers I have partnered with brought in a total 0 sales. Will refrain from this type of marketing for a while.
  • Optimized fb ads and https://ibb.co/gV5GCYz
(won’t let me upload img directly)

Had an influx of orders in the last 24 hours I have done 7 times the average.

All profits all reinvested.

Figured out the following:

I need approx. £2000/month for my expenses(house,bills,etc)

I won’t take any money out of this until it hits £10k/ month.

At that level, 20% should not affect as much. Of course, the goal is to reduce this percentage as much as possible.

I had two returns total. Customer service is funny. I try not to get mad, but will build tolerance as it progresses. It’s part of every business.

Revenue:

  • £189 in person sales
  • £ 432 etsy
  • £610 main website
    Total £1231

Overall I’m very happy I have a viable business.
I enjoy the process. From figuring out what works and what doesn’t, packaging every item, printing labels, going to the post office, I love every moment of it.

What I also do and customers love:
I send the items out within a maximum of 1h of placing the order. Every single one.
I know I could go only once per day to the post office but this way customers are more likely to leave a positive review/recommend the products.

I also delivered an item myself to a customer that lives close enough to me, within 30 minutes of ordering.
He was shook!
TAKE THAT AMAZON!:rofl::rofl:
;)

I learnt a lot in the past month.
Knowledge cannot be taken away, by anyone.
