Beating ebay, amazon, etsy...

If I've got a keyword where the top ten are all subpages of domains like neimanmarcus, amazon, sears, target, but none of the pages (not domains) have backlinks...literally 0.

Is it possible to beat these big boy websites even if their particular pages have no backlinks? Or are they just always untouchable?

Go for it man, don't give up before you try. Even if your campaign doesn't put you ahead of them you'll learn some tricks for next time. Just being in the top 10 should bring some revenue, but more importantly you'll get some experience under your belt to use on future pages.

You should be able to beat them as long as the site you are putting up has some authority. Like Ezine or ArticleBase. A new domain may be harder to do.

Yes you can beat them. Most of the time there pages are not optimized at all. Just make sure all of your On page SEO is perfect then build links slowly the first month. Then after the first month get some High PR links. Also make sure you have a link on your site that goes to an authority site in your niche (I have noticed good results with this).
