I just wanted to share my outlook on how valuable it is to outsource
The importance of being a contractor rather than a laborer in web development.
In construction, there is typically a General Contractor that oversees the construction or remodel of a home for example. Many of these contractors have a background in construction and have a couple of talents in building, but are not skilled in all areas of construction. For the most part they manage the project. This contractor may have grown up framing houses, doing demo work and some landscaping. They do however have a general understanding on what is involved in building or remodeling a house to sell on the market. When involved in their project they will get their hands dirty in areas that they are familiar with and do what they enjoy. They have an understanding of the importance to leave the work that they are not proficient in to the "experts". Rather than spend the time to master a craft that they are not comfortable with, they hire the experts at a reasonable price and save money and get a quality service/product, less time and better work than if they were to do it on their own. They understand the value of pulling the strings rather than hitting the nail with the hammer.
Like anything in business, time is money.
If it takes you 5+ hours to create some half ass logo, take what 5 hours of your time its worth and hire someone who specializing in logo design for half the price. You will have more time to work on other parts of the project and get a better logo than if you were to do it on your own.
You may spend hours trying to modify code just to make some small alteration on a site, while it would take an "expert" 10 minutes and $5.
I could keep going with examples, but you know where i am going with this. Swallow the pride and hire someone for specific tasks that will take up too much of your time, while you could be doing other things that you are actually good at. In the end, you will get a better product and save a lot of time and money.
