I’ve been doing SEO for years, and I’ll say this openly —
2025 was the most unpredictable year I’ve seen.

Same content, same links:
one site jumps, another dies.
White hat, grey hat, black hat — all getting mixed results.

It honestly feels like timing + luck matter more than “perfect strategy”.

So I want honest answers from real practitioners:
  • Do you still trust SEO as a long-term business in 2026?
  • What’s working for you consistently right now?
  • Are you reducing SEO investment or going all-in?
  • If you had to pick ONE thing that still works, what is it?
No gurus, no theory — real talk only.

There is certainly no such thing as luck, achievements always come from hard work, experience, and the knowledge you have. SEO always requires diligence and a well-planned working strategy.

SEO still works, but results now come slower and reward patience more than quick tactics.

So , the key is to start multiple projects. Keep your costs minimum. At least, some projects will take off and overall there will be profit.

If I had to pick one: Topical Authority + Entity Verification. You cannot rank for a "keyword" in 2026; you rank for a "Topic." You must prove to Google that you are an "Entity" that actually exists. This means having a verified Google Business Profile, active social signals, and an "About Us" page that doesn't look like it was written by a bot.

Why "One site jumps, another dies" (The "Luck" Factor)
This usually happens because of Site-Level Quality scores. * Site A might have 500 "thin" pages from 2022 that are dragging down the 10 "great" pages you just wrote.

Site B might be smaller but "cleaner," so Google trusts its new content immediately.

Do you still trust SEO as a long-term business in 2026?
Yes, trusted it more than 12 years. Why Should i not trust it now.

What’s working for you consistently right now?
Topical authority. Backlinks that stay. Brand link building

Are you reducing SEO investment or going all-in?
Keeping it side by side with social media marketing.

If you had to pick ONE thing that still works, what is it?
I always focus on link building as a brand not for some specific keywords. That always works for me.

I'm still doing the foundational basics of SEO and it works for me. Solid on page content, keyword optimized blog post topics, etc. I do very little backlinking because most sites are garbage and now people want $150 for a guest post from a site that gets 50 visitors a month. Ill do citations and whatever local directories I can find.

I show up in AI overviews often because I feel I'm giving google what it wants. As we know AI is scraped content that is being pulled from whatever it can find. So all I'm doing is feeding the beast.

Some form of luck was always required. This is because same effort put on two different websites will always result in different results.

Honestly, Still works, but these days it feels more about smart timing, patience, and consistent effort than just perfect strategy.

You’re saying what a lot of SEOs are thinking but won’t admit.

SEO still works, but it’s riskier and slower now. Same tactics, different results timing and trust matter more than ever.

I’m not quitting SEO in 2026, but I’m more selective: fewer sites, fewer pages, more protection.
What’s working best is updating proven URLs and building brand signals, not chasing new keywords.

No — SEO in 2026 isn’t “mostly luck.”
But it feels unpredictable because ranking depends on many signals (content quality, user intent, site experience, backlinks, and AI understanding), some of which change often.
Smart strategy + consistent work still drives results — luck only helps when competitors make big mistakes or algo updates favor your niche.

Not at all luck; it’s pure calculation and the result of how you and your competitors play. It looks interesting, and I want to check and notice even very minute changes nowadays. AI search will play a very big role in the coming days this is just my prediction.

No - SEO still work with strategy, not just luck, in 2026.

I think it is not luck but a high-skill execution game where the one consistent factor is building genuine topical authority through deep, user-focused content and earning legitimate niche endorsements, as Google's AI now ruthlessly filters out any manipulative or thin signals, making predictable results dependent on mastering EEAT fundamentals.

I guess Google added a randomisation factor to rankings like Tiktok and IG to push some sites. So, it made things complicated to understand for most people. Many started thinking that backlinks are not necessary and white hat SEO is enough to rank. But this factor shuffles the sites over time and makes things worse for everyone.

there is certainly a luck component, its not always hard work

I find it more difficult than in previous years, and the supply chain has changed many different options.

Totally agree
2025 felt like rolling dice. Still in SEO, but now mixing it with real community building. If one thing still works, it’s solving actual searcher problems + steady topical authority. Not all-in, not backing out, just smarter balance.

SEO still works The most consistent wins are coming from improving existing pages intent alignment, internal linking from active pages, and regular content updates. Budgets aren’t shrinking, they’re shifting away from link volume toward quality and site trust.

Perfection can't be overpowered with luck, it's about doing the right process and staying consistent.
