Hey all.
Pretty new to the SEO scene and here and BHW, so ill quickly introduce my self. Im from the UK, 24 years old and just looking to start getting into making a bit of money online, not really looking for huge amounts (would be nice) but more extra "pocket money".

Anyway i want to stick to one method before jumping around trying all others and not seeing one method all the way through. I decided to put adsense on my blog (a blog about traveling).

My question is, do basic comments help SEO at all ? as i am getting comments saying "Nice info, this is what i was looking for" etc. I was thinking about disabling comments as i dont want loads of text on my blog, but if comments help then it would be stupid of me to disable them.

Thanks in advance!

Comments on your blog won't be have much effect on your search engine position really, but they might make your page look more legit and trustworthy so I'd keep them on. There are much more important factors that affect the SEO of your blog both on-page and off-page :)

Glad to see a fellow UK blackhatter! Welcome :)

Thanks for that :) Yeah ive been experimenting with SEO really, quite a lot to take in so been taking it slow lol, playing around with wordpress SEO plugins and that :). It's strange because I really have not done much on it SEO wise, but its getting traffic and comments, so I must be doing something right somewhere, somehow lol

Personally, I would leave them up...comments are HUGE...it gives you an avenue to interact with your readers...I feel that that's an enormously huge part of keeping your readers coming back. interact with them, get discussions going...they'll come back and STAY with you. that's money.

So it doesnt help with SEO, but it helps you stay in business and grow and eventually make moolah :)

Why do people say it does not help SEO.. it does !. They are fresh unique content, if the comments are related to your post. If the comments are general spammy comments like : "This was useful" ; "Thank you for this" then it doesn't help.

Well, that's what I meant.... just don't bank on readers giving you keywords... a lot of comments are going to be "awesome article, I learned a lot" or something. but you're right, it can help SEO...IF...there's keywords in there.

If the comment is an actual comment about the content of the article, leave them.

If not, delete them. (they dilute the keyword density and LSI effects of your page)

Never auto approve anything.

Thanks for all your input guys, yeah mainly the comments are basically "Nice site, a lot of information about travelling" (its a travel blog). No comments are really asking questions nor wanting a reply from me :)
But after what you guys said, i think i will just leave them
thanks again! :)
