Banners ads for SEO?

This is something I have always considered...

basically I have been offered a banner ad on a high traffic website which is very close to my own market and will benefit me but if the ad were to be do follow would it benefit me SEO wise seeing as the content is similar etc.

having a few picture links (banners) is important for SEO as well.

If you can get a backlinks with "anchor text" then it will be great. Image backlinks are not so great for seo .. but yes it do create some anchor diversity.

Even the nofollow banner adds some extent of benefit then why not your's one.
