What kind of account was it? I've seen porn stars and weed Instagrams restored months after being banned. But if you had a spam account, you can kiss it goodbye. People report that stuff.

I don't use Instagram, but they have a Facebook page you can send a message to. I'm not sure if they'd respond, but it's worth a shot.

Definitely contact them and explain, there's a thread somewhere about methods to unban your account, you send a picture of yourself with a code, and sometimes your account will be unbanned.
Worked for me even with accounts i've botted with
