Bandwidth for Streaming Video Sites

How much bandwidth per minute does it take to stream locally hosted video at Youtube quality? Is flash the best format for bandwidth efficiency?

If you have no bandwith limits then you don't have to worry, right?

Flash or flv files are the most optimized format for streaming yes and in terms of compatibility, its pretty much universal.. The video time to MB ratio depends on video+audio bitrate ofcourse but a video bitrate of 600 or a bit more is pretty much acceptable quality (similar to old youtube quality)

As a rough benchmark, 1k visitors a day will require a bandwidth bucket of under 3 terabytes (Im in the free porn tube niche though).. thats about 100MB per user per day (each video averages about 4-5mins).. Youtube wipes its ass with petabytes in the 100s per month now that HQ is in lol
