I have a friend that has had some negative press ran about them. It's destroying their business reputation with a bunch of lies ran in the media. Since it's newspapers/media who have ran the story, there's no removing it (at least not legally!) However, I know there's ways to bury the story in SEO results w/ similar results, duplicating the websites where the story is ran and changing the text a little bit, etc. I just don't know all the details, and how exactly that works. Essentially we want to put soo many pages out there that the bad press is buried in the search results.

Does anyone know the methods used to accomplish this?

    I appreciate any/all insights!

Thanks. I kinda figured that part out... just asking HOW to do that exactly? I just came across some other threads by searching this forum for ORM and Online Reputation Management.
    Thanks

There are many reputation management services available but what they do in reality is that try to control the first SERPs for the company name. They rank company's official Facebook page, Twitter account, a Press release and a video, except of course the official website. Now if the press release which damages your friend's reputation is hosted on a authority website you can't do much from a SEO perspective. As the previous friends suggested try to rank something above them. Create a new press release with a positive impact, write some comments on review sites, post a video speaking about your friend's company and try to rank those.

Google automatically pulls some press on each company, try to publish a lot of press to get G to only list your press pieces. Other than that, I'd recommend ranking other stuff better over trying to neg SEO those bad press links.

You could hire someone or you could do it yourself.

If you are doing it yourself you can register a bunch of web2.0 and blog accounts, try to get accounts with names relating to the keywords they are trying to rank for and then populate them with content relating to those keywords / names of the company.

You can also do some simple videos, the content doesn't have to be much, as well and post to the usual places (especially youtube) as these rank really quickly and really easily.

Once you have created this you will want to do a bit of SEO to them, chances are that they will easily outrank the bad reviews.

When you have those bases covered it never hurts to get a few slightly easier backlinks that can also rank such as bookmarks on the high end bookmarking sites or articles to article sites.

You may not even need to do the last step as the web2.0s and videos will usually do the trick. If they start to outrank your money site try adding a few posts to those web2.0s to your money site to give it a boost.

As Jimbobo mentioned above, they can either start creating and promoting positive stuff on their own, or hiring a service to do it.

If you do it yourself, start claiming all of the social profile sites and web 2.0 sites that you can get your hands on. The important thing though is to use unique content and not use the same company biography over and over again. Create a content schedule and post to each of these weekly if possible. The more updates you can make, the better.

Also, be sure to fully build out the profiles as well. This also means following people and engaging like you normally would.
