As some of you may know I will be backpacking the world starting in November. Now that there is only 3 months away it has kind of hit me that my friend and I don't have much planned. I bought my pack yesterday, but there's still so much to do it's overwhelming! Just wanted to see if there's anyone here on BHW that has backpacked before and if they have any major tips for someone who has never done it before.

Here is a very rough agenda of where we are going:

November 2013 - New Zealand - Skydiving, glacier hike, glow worm caves
December 2013 - SEAsia
January 2014 - SEAsia
February 2014 - SEAsia
March 2014 - SEAsia/India/Nepal
April 2014 - Africa
May 2014 - Africa
June 2014 - South America - Brazil - World Cup!
July 2014 - South America
August 2014 - South America
September 2014 - Caribbean
October 2014 - Mexico
November 2014 - Vegas - BHW Conference!

If anyone wants to meet up at some point let me know!

P.S. This trip is entirely funded by IM earnings! I don't have the amount of money I need to make it through the entire trip. I'm going to have enough saved for a return ticket home if needed, but hopefully that isn't the case. Depending on how much I have by the time we leave will judge how much I have to budget.

Well it is essential to become member at hostelling international, the youth hostel organisation, you can have a bed worldwide! and mostly it comes cheap. 2nd.: get free android app locus or check andromaps project and download all vectormaps of all countries you want to visit - then you have offline navigation for free, check the hike-skins they are free too.. ps: signing up for youthhostels is quick and easy if you go to the next youthhostel at home, in your country, and say to the staff that you need worldwide usuable membership. and consider couch-surfing too because its free, but you need to sign up too

dont consider couchsurfing because it is free!
consider couchsurfing because it is just awesome!

Definitely considering couch surfing! Especially in New Zealand to help save some cash!

Sounds like an awesome trip.

Here is a list of films to watch before you go, they may save your life !

Edit: Too Lazy to make my own list so look at these:

There are a couple of good films in those lists, so enjoy.

Have a great trip.

If China is on your list for February, you will be able to experience first hand, Chinese New Year. It's a pyro's playground around that time, as the fireworks are louder than you ever heard in your life.

Other than that, not much more I can add. Have a good trip.

Unfortunately I don't think we will be visiting China, however, plans are always open for change along the way so you never know!
