Backorder domain failure

Placed a backorder with SN, NJ, and POOL. No luck. Domain was grabbed by Buy Domains. Domain didn't hit redemption. What does this mean?

I've never trusted backordering domains. It's basically distilled snake oil. They'll "try" to grab the domain for your, no guarantees, no assurance of any kind.....it's basically free money for whoever sells these "back-orders" if they choose not to do anything...
 
That is complete waste of your money, I have done it thrice. Never worked for me. :\
 
Well I don't pay for POOL, SN, and NJ. Only for GD but I didn't mind. I got it cheap (with coupon code). The other services are better but you pay only if they're successful and you actually get the domain. My only issue is how did Buy Domains get this domain and why is the nameservers pointed to their parking program.

Its business. If the domain is valuable they will try to sell it for XXX-XXXXXX
 
They were faster. All the back orders are sent i and the 1st one wins. Also (this is just opinion) the big companies keep care of each other
 
Like other say, it's waste of time.
 
I have backordered a couple domains, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. What usually happens is that these companies have their own registrar which they solely use for backordering.

That's because buydomains have their own system to catch domains and there are many other private companies which try to catch domains..Its a huge business. That's why you dont see good domains on expireddomains.net because all the good domains are taken by backordering companies and all the remaining crap is left to register for free
 
I found out more information. Tucows has an exclusive relationship with Afternic (which is now owned by GD) to sell and auction off backordered domains but Afternic seems to not work properly. GD just acquired them so they're still transitioning. Afternic was owned by BuyDomains. This was as of Sep 2013.

Namejet and snapnames - you pay 0 if domain is not backordered by you, no upfront payment.

I saw it many times for good domains. NJ and SN (together) will catch ~30% of really good domains. There are other (sometimes private) drop catchers.

Backordering domains is not waste of time if you know how to do this properly. Everything in IM business can be waste of time if you dont know "how to".

Exactly. Wow only 30%? How do the private guys catch? How do they beat out the other players like SN, NJ, and POOL?
 
Backordering domains will always just try and get more money out of you, no matter what or how you try and obtain the domain that wasn't originally registered by yourself.
 
How can a domain still be acquired during its expiration backorder phase? I don't understand this.
