Backlinks website?

Hi I just recently got into YouTube and I have no idea what backlinks are but I hear a lot of talk about this. My niche is of a recently released game and I have about 100 subs so far. I upload 4 - 6 gameplay videos a day.

Do I need to research what these backlink things are? Would a website help my YouTube growth?

I do not pay for subs, views, or keywords. I write detailed titles, use keywordtool and spam my details with the relevant keywords. I use social media as well. Are there any other whitehat methods that will help me? Any way to find out better keywords to use (without paying for them of course).

I don't monetize my videos at the moment. I'm not in this to make some quick cash. I'm looking for some genuine methods to promote my YouTube on my own. Thanks

Also what about other methods like promoting your channel on a popular radio station?

Get the word out so people come and view the site. The more interesting the video the better.
You can link your website to it as well simply by embedding it in a post.
Or write some good articles and submit them to decent online sites with the video embeded.
Each will count as a link

Backlinks are the important factor of ranking high your site in search engines.this means other websites linking to your site.Focus on higher quality links these days, not mass submit links like these. You atleast want some control of the links being created if you are mass submitting (ie good PR, good anchor text diversity, and that stuff)

Quality video will always get organic shares, which obviously increase the traffic.
Getting your video ranked on Google/YouTube in the top searches is not quite easy nowadays (When you dont know about backlinks).
