backlinks to 404 pages

Hi, I bought an expired domain, and transfered it to https 3 days ago, so lots of reindexing stuff is expected . I checked the backlinks and many of them pointed to 404 pages. Will these backlinks be lost after google recrawl these ?? I have set a 301 redirect of 404 pages to my homepage, would it solve the issue ? thanks a lot

Redirect could help after the next crawl, but it's always better to get 200
