backlinks....they scare me

ok, so ive built some sites...and now wanna get some traffic...so ill need some links. this brings up some questions to mind.

1. ive seen some sites on places like DP with 3000+ backlinks...and these sites are selling for 80 bucks. correct me if im wrong but its gotta take ages to build 3000 backlinks?

2. can i work out my PR backwards. i mean for example if my goal is PR 3.....how many pr 3 inbound links would i need to equal a pr3 for my site....how many pr 6 links would i need etc.

3. i once found a site that let me input the name of the site and then it would list all the sites that links to me....their pr....and if the link was do or no follow. sadly i lost this link...anyone know of anything like this.

4. If you are creating a squidoo or blogger etc, how many times would you link to your site from that mini site. would you just send one link to one page...or link to as many pages as possible as many times as possible?

5. if building backlinks do you focus all you effort on one page of a site. i mean if you have a ten page site would you get one link to each page....or ten links to one page?

6. if building links through submitting to article directories, do you have to submit unique content to all of them. i mean if your rewriting the article everytime then that's a lot of work for just one link.

7. why would anyone bother submitting to article directories if you could just submit your link to a ******** social site and get a backlink from that. wouldnt that be quicker?

well luckily there are tools to automate those processes...

Some directories are high PR and have been established for a long time. If you can get the right directories it can be very valuable towards your SEO efforts.

Stay away from directories. Here is a little quote from one of my emails to a client:

I have stopped using them myself years ago. I can't recall anyone achieving
good results by submitting their websites to directories. Think about
it. These are just collections of links to all sorts of websites that
you don't always want to be associated with and Google knows that.
They know that you went and submitted your website to this directory
yourself so why should they rank you any higher than the other website
which has backlinks coming from blogs and bookmarking sites because
somebody liked it so much they decided to bookmark and blog about it.

Here is every single backlink method known to a man to give you some ideas.

I think best long term SEO is done by hand with each link picked individually. Yes, its fucking annoying and tedious but its the most effective way. If you are going for a short term SERP domination go ahead and use all them wonderful spammer and submitters.

A little over a year ago, I submitted a site to about 200 free directories (using Br@d C@llen's? free directory submitter).

added a link on:
4 different 3bay 'about me' pages
a yah0o profile page
a 'go0gle page'
a bl0gger blog
a w0rdpress hosted blog
self hosted w0rdpress blog
another related site I have ( also had 0 pr at the time)
mysp@ce page
a free directory focusing on a sites related mine
maybe 5 blogs, as comments, but should have been all no follow

Created 4 or 5 screencapture videos showing my site and submitted them to yt, yah0o vids, metacafe, 1 or 2 more. I didn't put a link back to my site on any of these vid sites however.
Added links on a couple more social sites that I can't recall right now.

When g0ogle updated pr, the site was a 3.

There's better and more in depth info on this forum about generating backlinks, just showing what got a pr 3. More sites used to post backlinks on and more automation would help for sure.

I've seen that pr doesn't mean anything now, but if nothing else, many people think it does. With a pr of 3 rather than 0, it should be easier to find link partners from there.
