Have a question about backlinks to boost ranking that I am still trying to find out:

Should backlinks point to the domain or the specific page related to the keyword? And if the backlinks are to point to a specific page for the keyword, if newer pages are posted with the same keyword focus, do I have to get new backlinks to the new page?
Or would backlinks pointing to just domain and not a specific page be better so that newer pages with the same keyword focus would rank faster?

example:

domain is www.mywebsite.com and I want to rank for keyword gamestation and currently there is a webpage www.mywebsite.com/gamestation-2015-review
but when a new page www.mywebsite.com/gamestation-2016-review comes out, I want it to also be ranked.

the backlinks should point to specific page related with the keyword and ofc don't forget to make the keyword as an anchor text

Backlinks to a specific page will make that specific page rank. However, if you have a lot of high quality links it will give your site "authority" so new stuff you post may rank better in Google.

If you rank multiple pages with different keywords and if your domain itself targets nothing specific, then you would want to do both. You will need high authority backlinks to your domain homepage to give it more authority as well as targeted links to your internal pages.

for your example I'd leave the url as just gamestation review and update the title to 2016

Always to the specific page.

This looks like a good example for a silo site - ranking a range of associated phrases on inter linked pages (built and linked over time)

Worth a look.

Both. Mix it up. Building links to the homepage is beneficial because it trickles down the link juice to all your sub-pages.

You can use both the links. If you want to rank it faster then use the specific link or if you want to do it in a proper way the mix both and build links.

Silo site, interesting concept. always thought most websites rank on one main theme/keyword. Does look viable for a blog which covers a few things. Thanks for this, will go research on it more.

Backlinks should connect to related pages consisting of the keywords what we were using in our page.....
