So I check the backlinks of a URL in my Semrush account and it shows 35 links. If I check on Ahrefs, it shows over 4,000.
I'm curious as to the difference. Is Semrush only counting links with Dmoz directory submission or something?

Neither of them will find all the links that are pointing at your site. Ahrefs finds more links than SEMRush is what you can take away from the comparison.

SEM Rush sucks at finding backlinks. Ahrefs.com is where it's at. Why SEM Rush never finds as many backlinks is beyond me.

Because both sites has their own crawlers to detect. But Ahrefs is a lot more faster than any other available solutions. As, I've tried almost all majestic, ahrefs, semrush, moz, openlinkprofiler etc..

SEMRush's crawler is not its strong side. They specialize in scraping Google and reporting on that data. Ahrefs only cares about links.

They have different crawlers. Ahrefs and majestics are more reliable to find backlinks

People already answered correctly. For backlinks use ahrefs, for keyword research use SEMrush, and for something between try MOZ. Theres also majestic for link analize but I never quite understood their tools.

I see, another monthly expense. Yaay! :)

Thanks folks.

Ahref is used for backlink process and rank analyses. SEMrush is used for keyword research. Both of them are very useful for SEO.
