Backlinks missing from GSC after recent update

Hi guys, today I noticed something really weird in GSC and not sure if it is a bug or a penalty. A few weeks ago I had 1876 backlinks for this site and when I checked today it shows 248 backlinks. There is no manual penalty showing in the GSC as of now. Anyone else noticed this on their sites recently or dealt with this kind of issue before?

i have had same issue few days ago but with my keywords. lost all the keywords i was ranking.(p.s it didnt fall, all lost when checked on ahrefs) just the brand keywords left. i asked here no one responded to my question

GSC never show the total amount of backlinks,
check your if your links are indexed manually

did you have a site wide backlink, where every page of a site linked to you? it might be due to that, and google not showing it anymore.

I know GSC does not show all the backlinks, but 80% of the backlinks from over 200 domains disappeared from one week to another...

I know what you mean but this backlinks were from over 200 domains not from a couple of them. I am waiting for the next updated link report in the GSC and see if it is the same or not. I was curios if someone else experienced this before and if it was related to anything in particular. I have checked some of the links that disappeared and they are still indexed.

I have forgot to mention that the crawl report since Jan 19 looks like this. The zigzagging I believe is related to the numerous updates that they made this year but it is weird that around March 28 it went all the way down and stayed there...

if these links are indexed, then nothing to worry about
