Anything that drives traffic to a site is worth it. Although quality traffic should be the goal, which is not the case most of the time.

Backlinks still work and they work a lot better than earlier. Google no longer values content as much as it used to do because of heavy influx of AI content. Authority and trust are major deciding factors for ranking. Although you can gain authority with other means, backlinks are the backbone of site authority. You can't ignore the importance of backlinks for site ranking.

Google ranks sites that seem reliable. If a lot of sites links a specific domain in a natural way, Google just understands that domain is trustworthy and useful for people who makes searches, so he rank it first page.

Completely agree. Some SEOs' sloppy, antiquated methods of building backlinks are the issue, not backlinks themselves. Google has just gotten better at ignoring spam, not devaluing backlinks. Instead of blaming the algorithm for your strategy's stagnation, adapt your approach.

You’re absolutely right building low-quality links won’t get you anywhere and can even lead to penalties. At the same time, focusing only on off-page SEO won’t bring results either. What truly works is a balanced approach. Both on-page and off-page SEO are equally important and need to work together to drive real, sustainable results.

Totally agree with you. Backlinks still matter in 2025 just bad backlinks don’t. The problem isn’t the strategy, it’s how people use it without adapting to what actually works today.
