Backlinks inner page and home page

So I’ve always done a lot of backlinks to the inner pages with carefully selected keywords.

If I used a similar keyword or the same keyword on the home page such as (ugg boots) which is already targeted in the inner page named ugg boots would this effect the inner pages ranking and cause conflict?

Sorry for such a basic question

Keyword cannibalization could be an issue but also overusing anchors ( depending on which you use ).
