I read lots of stuff that suggests I get 2 or 3 good backlinks from PR5 - PR8 sites per day.

But ... what are these PR5 - PR8 sites?

Are we talking about blogs and/or forums? If so, it's fairly easy (I guess) to dig out two or three new ones every day.

But if the "get 2 or 3 new links per day" advice is not about blog/forums, what and where are these high-ranking sites that I'm supposed to get backlinks from.

Directories are always a possibility, but (in my opinion) a desperate one. Matt Cutts has said on several occasions that Google credits little or no value to this approach.

So, what exactly is a sustainable link-building strategy that will yield worthwhile results.

Any feedback appreciated.

It's mainly blogs, or sites that are vulnerable to comment spam. There are other miscellaneous sources such as wikis, coding sites and sites with some other way for users to generate content, but the main backbone is made up of commenting, preferably on unmoderated blogs. These are in fact still in plentiful supply.

For a guide on how to find these sites, see here:

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, but I seem to have a hell of a time finding pages over pr5 to drop links on. I've got a whole bunch of custom footprints in Scrapebox, and I've used your method for tracing back from spammer's websites. Any tips or hints for finding those pr6+ sites? Or it is just luck?

Thanks for that.

I like your term "vulnerable to comment spam".

I guess that's all it is, really. We post something; we disguise it; we make it look good; we give it contextual relevance; but ultimately we don't give a FF about anything except for the backlink.

There is no need to limit yourself to such high PR pages. Anything PR3 or above is a good find.

I have done a lot of digging and found some serious gems, but they always pop up at the most unlikely times. Basically, you just have to vary your search tactics and trust to luck.

Let's say I spend 24 hours solid hunting for new backlinks using my spam trail method. I would expect to find backlinks (on separate domains, so not including site: searches on the same domain) in this sort of PR breakdown.

PR n/a: endless
PR 1: thousands
PR 2: hundreds
PR 3: about 80
PR 4: about 40
PR 5: about 20
PR 6: about 5
PR7: 1 every 48 hours
PR8: 1 every 128 hours

Every now and again, you hit a pure gold spammer who has come up with unbelievable ways of getting links, and then you have a field day.

I do not currently use scrapebox.

@OP: If you want to download several high PR pages and/or want them delivered to your email once a week for free, go to my thread here...

This will be a good starting point for you. And when you are a bit more experienced you go and hunt down good sites yourself.

Hope this helps.

Hi there -- thanks for that. Just downloaded those five PDFs and registered for the weekly updates.
