Backlinks: Homepage or Articles/Products?

As the title says, what do you prefer?

Get links to homepage or to articles/products?

Depending on what you vote for, justify your answer.

I put in articles but I would not limit myself to either. Both are important. Homepage links are still great but I have found spreading backlinks out across mutliple pages (in addition to home page links) gets better results. IMO building links to both are more natural. For instance, all the wikipedia links I have gotten are to inner pages, not the home page. I did not pay for those, I earned them with the content in the articles and sharing on social networks. However, it is still very important to have home page links pointing to your home page for best results. My two cents.

The answer is simple. You can't rank your homepage for multiple keywords because no one like to build links with homepage until you are a big fish but with different articles you can rank for as many keywords as you like. Just build link with your articles and then pass "link juice" to homepage.

Both of course. Keep maintaining your homepage with fresh links and promote harder your product pages.

Both are important, just maintain your linking ratio 40/60. mean 40% links to homepage and 60% to article or product.

that really depends on the keywords targetted and number of products/pages,
if you're targeting a set of low competition keywords, getting links to the homepage would be better and let most of them rank,
while with a few of them with competitive ones, it's better to point links to the product pages, which would help to boost up each page separately rather than enhancing the domain overall authority
