Backlinks from subdomains are external backlinks or internal backlinks?

If they have good metrics, they are still worth a lot.
 
Technically they will be internal.
But google very well understands web 2.0 sites. So for popular platforms like blogspot or weebly, links will have same effects as those from different sites.
 
For some sites it's internal and for some it's external.
 
I would say they are neither entirely internal nor external. May be Google could give some juice for subdomains.
 
So if I link wordpress.com blog from wordpress.com blog will it be internal or external? I think external
