Backlinks from sites with different language?

Is it worth to put backlinks on a site with different language than mine? For example, if my site is on russian is it worth to put backlink on an english site if my anchor text is on russian?

I am wondering about the same thing also

I've seen many adult sites ranking high on google from Chinese sites and other non English sites in Asian countries.
In that thread where the guy was dominating alot of popular keywords with tons of back links,some of his back links were high PR non English sites.
I really think it all boils down to PR.

I definitely wouldn't say "PR," but if you get a link from an authority site in say... romania... it definitely helps and may even boost your rankings on localized servers in that country.

If you're buying links, I may not place as high of a valuation on them, but hell, if you can get them for free/cheap, I wouldn't think twice.

If you went through the backlinks of WSJ.com (Wall Street Journal), I'm sure you'll find TONS of international backlinks, and if that's not a case study in Authority Site backlink portfolio, I don't know what is.

I dropped links on a relatively small number of chinese sites and within a half a week I was bringing in thousands of hits for english terms. That's just my anecdote, but it leaves me to believe that they are still of value.

I also have some back on different language website. I think google give priority on other language, what do you think about this.

You are absolutely right as my study all me to tell this. Many websites are ranking very well on google from this technique. I have also seen that most of competitive niches are ranking. Most of site are getting link back from .ru.
I think .ru is the most powerful for SERPs but getting backlinks are very difficult. If you can , you should try to get it, definitely you will rank very soon and very HIGH.
