Here's a quick question: during the last month I've built some backlinks to a dentist site (not in my town/country). Today I have checked the site rankings for a few keywords and noticed that it's on a top position in... Google Places... Could that be some "side effect" of the backlinking campaign? Or does it have other causes? Thank you.

    Abo2870,

I would say no. The backlinks you build to the website count for that website and not the Google places listing. Are you typing in location specific queries when testing for rank position in SERP's for your client? If so, this is probably why you are seeing the places listing (and you have probably optimized it well). Google introduced the Vencie update which was designed to deliver better results based on a user's location.

Here is a good writeup on venice,

Actually we can't say No. Because local link building is helpful to improve Ranking on Google Places listings

Remember Ranking of Google Places listings:

    Relevance: relevant search results.

Distance: what lengths is each potential search be a consequence of the location term used within a search.

Importance: This is based on information about a business from across the web in links, articles, and directories, etc...

    1.Set Up-your business page,

    2. listing- if you have got ones website link, information, get in touch with data or even everything else, make sure this meets for a The Google Places page. This will likely also assist ones natural ratings too - this provides the dual function.

3:link juice - giving you the most juice to Google Places listings keywords

4:Give Accurate names, addresses and the correct phone numbers

    5. local links: more local links that mention your business name, address, phone number and URL

    finally updates your places page

    Good luck
