I was reading some blogs about SEO and stuff where I saw a comment (not the article itself) where It says that making links is pretty useless (same for PageRank) because Google doesn't make a PageRank update often ? Is that true ? If it's the case then why people care about building backlinks over the web ?

LMFAO dude SEO and link building is not dead. This question gets asked so much it really makes me wonder.

Monitoring pagerank is pointless because of the reason you mentioned. But not link building - why do you think they stopped updating pagerank? Because they don't want people to know how they are measuring backlink value, which in turn shows the importance of links.

That guy wanted everyone to believe him so that he can dominate the search engine with backlinks all by himself.

Well, this can be debated. I did a test. Made a website and did zero backlinking. I do have some backlinks. Some people linked back to my site and that is all. And i m very well ranked. But this are for easy and relatively easy keywords. I m not sure if you can outrank heavier keywords with more competition. So i do agree that backlinking is still needed. Nut it is also important what kind of backlinking.

@davids355
But now we have PA and DA? Isnt that the same thing? I mean it can help to know how good is backlink value?

You believe everything you read on the internet? Really? I've got this bridge.....

Google PageRank Officially Shuts its Doors to the Public but internally Google will still be using the data, but it will no longer be visible to the public.

I'm not sure I'm getting you honestly , I mean if the backlinks are what determines the PageRank and Google isn't updating it always , should I keep having high authority backlinks or not ? confused honestly

Linkbuilding matters. How will you rank on Google if you don't build your links.

google is not supportive towards backlinks, but they are important for page ranking.

Yes, PR is no more, but buying links from high metrics domain will help you to get link juice to your site. So,it will increase your site ranking.

it is more about SAPE and PBNs nowadays also slow SEO and INSIDE SEO on your website,

You have to understand that Google is not going to publicly reveal everything that they look for and how their entire system of operations work. That would be foolish. But you have to just use common sense and think about it for second...these backlink signals are votes from other websites that they in essence endorsing your content. This is powerful stuff! And you'd better believe that it still factors into the Google ranking algorithm - heavily. Don't believe the BS that backlinks are dead. Without them you my get an initial new content ranking, but then more than likely it will soon slowly start fading away once Google realizes that no one is linking to "voting for" your content.

If content is king , link building is queen

King will be lonely without queen

Backlinks aren't about attaining PR. They're about ranking in the SERPs to make money.

Pagerank does not exist anymore; Google phased it out last year.

Backlinks are still the "Backbone" of Google. They factor in all kinds of stuff to validate wether or not your site is "Real" (think trustflow, age, social signals, etc..)

But at the end of the day?

Backlinks.

It's definitely true backlinks are not the only factor in google algo (those days are long gone) ... site speed, social signal, bounce rate etc play a factor.

But backlink still and, I bet, will always be, major determining factor in serp.

Backlinks still work and will always work till the end of the search engine. The whole Google is based on a Paper wrote by "peter lynch and sergey brin". BTW, those two guys are founder of a company called GOOGLE. Core concept of the Paper is "Rank web pages by links"
