last night my backlinks of one of my sites where 450,
there are a couple of hundred backlinks that arent indexed yet, so i pinged
170 profile backlinks with pingfarm.com

now i checked the backlinks of the same site today and it showd up with 449 backlinks... how is this possible ??

any ideas as to how this happend ?
does the pinging/forcing new backlinks devalue your site , do you guys advise to ping backlinks or do you guys just let google find them naturally.

Thx in advance,

Have you ever thought spam filters might delete 1 backlink? Changes are, after using an automated program, I end up losing up to 20% of them.

you have to remember that even google is not some magical fairy. this data is cached to some extent so there is a lag between what they list and what the actual state of the web is.

a good portion of you backlinks are going to come from some random site, or aggregator, or feed, or directory pulling you in with some widget automatically on a rotation. if a spider crawls that site when you hapen to be pulled up, you get 1000 backlinks, even if in actuality they only exist for days or minutes.

next time the spider comes around to that site (which can be a very short or very long time), they are all gone and your number drops.

you are always going to be loosing a single backlink here or there from sites changing or deleting things. but something like this is usualy what causes you to get those huge spikes; ive lost/gained 10k - 100k overnight on a site pretty regularly.

google knows these types of links are crap and they dont really effect your actual rankings.

tl;dr
its a coincidence

Hi Alex,

It could be many reasons.

Some of the reasons could be that Google is just taking it's sweet time to index your backlinks, like eternalfrost said, the big G is not perfect after all.

Another reason could be spam filters like macdonjo3 said, if your backlinks are not quality blog posts or article submissions then know for sure that some of them are going to disappear.

Keep up the good work,

thx for all the replies, i guess a blogcomment got deleted or something like that most of them are generic commens on autoaprove lists so that makes sense.
i will keep creating backlinks then, also pinging backlinks that arent index yet doesnt cause any harm ?? do you guys advise pinging blogcomment backlinks and forum profiles ?
